Meet Our Doctors
Joan M. Yarnall
B.S., B.S., M.S., V.M.D., Ph.D.
After completing a double undergraduate major (B.S. in Zoology and B.S. in Secondary Education) in 1974, and a Masters degree (M.S. in Physiology) in 1975, at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, Dr. Yarnall moved on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to complete a Ph.D. in Physiology in 1980. After a few years of post-doctoral research at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, Texas , she decided to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. She began her veterinary education at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, and reestablished residency in Pennsylvania to complete her Veterinary Medical Doctor degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. After honing her skills as an associate veterinarian in another area practice for 6 years , she established the Animal Clinic at Thorndale in 1993. She designed our current facility at 431 Bondsville Road, Downingtown, relocating the practice there in 2004. Despite being a “gradual student” studying at various universities around the country, she now lives three miles away from where she was born and raised, and loves being a small animal veterinarian and practice owner. In addition to spending time with her pride and joy, daughter, Amy, and her pets, she enjoys gardening, wildlife, and many outdoor activities.
Nancy T. Haiko
Originally from the Lancaster area, Dr. Nancy Haiko completed her undergraduate degree (Animal Bioscience) at the Pennsylvania State University and then moved westward to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 1997. She worked in another area practice for five years and also directed an animal blood bank before joining the Animal Clinic at Thorndale in 2002. She brought with her many talents and years of practical experience and has blended in well, both personally and professionally, with our hospital. Dr. Haiko enjoys spending time with her husband (John), son (Wes), daughters (Zoe and Caroline) and their many pets. The whole family enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and running.
Hilary H. Fordyce
Dr. Hilary Fordyce grew up in the small town of Carlisle, Massachusetts. She attended Kenyon College, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in biology and anthropology. She earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed a small animal internship and post doctoral fellowship. Although she had a strong interest in surgery, she spent the next several years in emergency medicine. She joined the family here at the Animal Clinic at Thorndale in April 2013, where she continues to pursue her interest in surgery and medicine. When not working, Dr. Fordyce loves spending time with her daughter, Lucy. She enjoys running, gardening and competing with her horse, Sam, an off the track Thoroughbred. Rounding out her family are two cats, George and Smarty Jones, and a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback named Bella B.
